Potty Training

My little boy finally decided he was ready to be a BIG boy (with a little prompting from mom)!!  We I have been working on potty training off and on for a while, but it was pretty much a waste of time.  Dayton was not ready for this next step to becoming a true big boy.  I really was at a loss, Kylah had been too eager to sit on the potty, so I was a bit frustrated and I think he could tell!

My main problem in all this was I was trying to do it all by myself.  When I finally decided to ask God to help Dayton be ready and for my patience in the whole ordeal, things started working!!  I don't know why I try to do so  many things on my own - you'd think by now I would have learned to go THE SOURCE for everything.

After asking for tips on Facebook and reading this blog entry, I was determined to give it a try - I sure had nothing to lose!  I prayed long and hard before starting this endeavor, and boy did it make a difference!!

Yesterday we started.  I didn't do everything exactly like the blog stated, but I had something to go on and adapted it to work for us.  Dayton only had 2 accidents all day, one of those was during nap time, which I won't even count!!  He got to put LOTS of stickers on his chart and had a BUNCH of car marshmallows!!  He was so proud of himself, which made things go much more smoothly than it could have gone.  By lunch, he was telling me when he needed to go!
Here is a video from earlier today (please excuse the messy room and the lighting)!!  Can you tell he's proud of himself??

Day 2 went way better than I ever expected!!  He told me every time but once that he needed to go, the other time I asked him to try for me since it had been quite a while and he went.  No accidents at all today, even during nap time!!

I am still putting diapers on him at nighttime and haven't quite decided how I'm going to handle church in the morning.  I am thinking pullups might be the easiest, just in case he has an accident, but since he is doing so well, I definitely don't want to mess things up...

Blog Commenting Challenge -Day 5

My dream vacation would be to Australia! I have always loved koalas and would love to go there and see some in person. My favorite vacation is going to the Smoky Mtns. My husband and I were married there and have been at least once every year for the past 9 years.

Blog Commenting Challenge -Day 4

Today's Challenge is to talk about our hobbies...I really don't have very many hobbies. I do love to read. Some of my favorite authors are Nicholas Sparks, Richard Paul Evans, and Cindy Woodsmall. I have really gotten into Amish stories lately and some days I think I'd like to be Amish, and then I realize how hard I'd have to work and that thought quickly passes!! Another hobby is spending time with my family. I'm glad for summer break to be here so we can spend more time with Kylah - she'll be starting Kindergarten this fall and it sure will be a big adjustment with her gone all day every day!!

Blog Commenting Challenge -Day 3

Today's challenge asks us about our social media. I have a facebook account, but am not willing to share that on here due to security issues. I use it to keep up with friends and family and share pictures of my kiddos. I also read several blogs that keep me informed of friendships and uplift me in my Christian walk, marriage and parenting. A few of my favorite blogs are Bless Your Heart , An Excellent Wife , and TreyMorgan.net . Link

Blog Commenting Challenge -Day 2

I started this blog when my daughter was about 18 months old. A friend had started and was telling me all about it and I decided to start one of my own. I mostly blog about my kiddos as a great way for grandparents and other family members to stay caught up on our happenings.

Blog Commenting Challenge -Day 1

I've never done this before, but we'll try it and see how it goes. I will be taking a 5 day Blog Commenting Challenge to meet new bloggers. To enter the challenge visit Jenna here to get started yourself!! SO, I will start today's post giving a little background info about myself in case you are new to my blog!
  • I am Kim. I live with my wonderful husband of almost 9 years in KY. We have a beautiful, smart, caring daughter, Kylah who will start Kindergarten this year at a local private school in our city. She was born 10 days past my due date and weighed in at a whopping 9 lbs 1 1/4 oz. Needless to say, I NEVER anticipated having a baby quite so big!!
  • Two years and 9 months later, we were blessed with our handsome, witty, hilarious son, Dayton. Knowing how big his sister was at birth, we decided to schedule to be induced a few days early to have an average sized baby...however, Dayton grew really well inside of me and was an even bigger baby weighing in at 10 lbs. 6 1/2 oz!!! WOW!! And, for the record, I had them both without a c-section (but I did get an epidural, thankfully!!) By looking at them now, you would never in a million years guess that they started out so huge!!
  • I worked 5 years as an elementary teacher and one year as a surgical assistant to an oral surgeon. Since the kiddos came along, I have been blessed to stay home with them and "teach" them a little from home.

Why I Love Him

There are so many reasons why I love my husband. I thought I'd share a few of them...
  • He loves me!!
  • He works hard for us so I can stay home with our kiddos.
  • He does EVERYTHING so well - I can't even think of one thing that he isn't good at!
  • He is a wonderful Christian father and husband.
  • He takes care of us.
  • He still gives me butterflies!! ;)
  • He probably isn't all that interested in a lot of the things that I am interested in, but he listens and remembers and asks questions about those things.
  • He is my best friend!
  • He has introduced me to lots of things that I would probably never have been interested in - like knife making and hunting.
  • He is very understanding.
  • He is the answer to a prayer - thankfully an even better answer than I could have ever anticipated!!
  • He is so good-looking!!
  • He makes me want to be a better person.

The Harvest of Grace - Book Review

The book, The Harvest of Grace, by Cindy Woodsmall is about several young Amish "couples". The couples form themselves during the book and are all weaved together making this book interesting. All of the characters are friends from the beginning or become so when entering the Amish community. I enjoyed the book and feeling like I was right there with the characters. I received this book for free from Water Brook Multnomah Publishing Group for my honest review.
